The aims of the Development Centre (“Kalkınma Merkezi”) are:

to fight against poverty and deprivation in rural and urban areas, strengthen women’s rights, contribute to the societal development of children, protect the environment, assist in the process of integration with the EU, and foster cooperation with national and international NGOs on development issues. To this end¾ especially within the context of reducing regional development differences¾ the Centre primarily aims to generate and implement concrete projects on development, entrepreneurship, training, research and consultation by utilizing the diverse and rich knowledge and experiences of all its members, and to ensure sustainability by promoting participation and investment in these projects.

In connection with the above-mentioned main purposes, the Centre also aims to:

improve production opportunities through various activities to be implemented within the context of development, and by means of increasing the knowledge and skills of the poor and disabled; to show these groups the benefits of unity; and to contribute to sustainable humanitarian development by promoting organizational solidarity;

improve democratic consciousness among target groups; to foster governance; to increase income of the target groups through practices that are free of discrimination of any kind, and environmentally-friendly; and to ensure that all projects have a positive impact on the overall life of the target groups;

develop human-centric, participatory and sustainable models aiming to ensure social and economic development in the regions in question, and to share these models with decision-making public authorities, NGOs and other democratic organizations;

encourage local governments, NGOs and rural/urban communities to participate in development efforts;

actualize and support efforts aiming to halt gradual economic regression in under-developed regions;

improve working conditions and job opportunities in target areas to reduce the need to uproot families and break up communities to search for work;

provide local experiences to national and international institutions to participate in development projects and programs;

carry out activities towards improving and fostering individual, economic and societal conditions of women;

foster democratic rights, democratic participation and the effective use of public space;

help in fostering sustainable use of natural resources;

improve and foster the problem-solving capacity of target groups and institutions through training, organizational activities, and access to new links and options.
